Bottle Rocket is a simple shaker toy for your little astronaut-to-be. It is knit around a 12-oz plastic soft drink bottle.

Yarn: You will need approximately 50 yards of a bulky-weight wool in the main color and 20 yards of a bulky-weight wool in a contrasting color for best results.

Supplies:

  • 4 US size 8 double-pointed needles
  • tapestry needle
  • waste yarn for provisional cast on
  • one empty 12-oz. soft drink bottle with cap, rinsed and dried
  • duct tape
  • rice, pebbles, or jingle bells (to make the rattle)

Sizing: The pattern will make a rocket that fits snugly around the 12-oz bottle. To adjust for a 24-oz bottle, knit even until the tube extends to where the bottle curves inward, then decrease as for the 12-oz bottle.

Bottle Rocket is the pattern for Week Fifteen of Pattern a Week at Running Jack Knits.
