Description:

  • My very first pattern release in 2017 was the super bulky version of this headband. I loved this design so much, I decided to translate it into bulky, aran, and worsted weight yarns! I personally love having multiple weight options for designs. Not only do I love this version even more, but I was able to perfect the seam in the back and achieve the edges I wanted to include on the original design! (It was just too wide with the super bulky yarn.) There’s something beautiful about revisiting a first design and perfecting it.
  • Beautiful braids, with a light material making it perfect for a spring headband. Great for wearing your hair up or down!

Skills:
- Intermediate beginner - pattern assumes knitter is
familiar with knit and purl stitches, and cable
knitting.

  • If cable knitting is new to you, don’t worry, I have step by step video instructions included.
  • The trickiest part of this pattern is the grafting/seaming at the end. Again, do not worry, I include a step by step video tutorial.

Size:
- 4 in tall x 9 - 11 in wide / 10.16 cm tall x 22.86 -
27.94 cm wide
- Finished headband fits an average adult woman’s
head, 21 - 22 in / 53 - 56 cm

Materials:

  • 80 to 100 yards of worsted weight yarn. Yardage is approximate and will vary based off of your tension/gauge
  • US 8 / 5.0 mm needles OR needles to obtain gauge. If your swatch is too small, bump up your needle size. If it’s too large, size down. Straight needles are recommended but not required. They are more helpful in the set up row.
  • Cable needle or double point needle
  • The pattern is written for worsted weight, but includes instructions for aran weight, as well.
  • Designer’s cream (worsted) sample used Lion Brand Wool Ease in the color Fisherman
  • Designers teal (aran) sample used Hobby Lobby’s Must Be Merino Aran in the color Teal

Other:

  • This headband is knit flat, from the bottom up. The ends are seamed together using your method of choice. Two options are included for your convenience. Once you start, you cannot go back and switch methods without ripping out all of your work!
  • Option one: long tail cast on, and standard bind off. When finished, sew the ends together using the mattress stitch technique. This is the easier of the two options, but it creates a more obvious and bulky seam.

  • Option two, which is more challenging, but provides a much cleaner, less bulky finish: provisional cast on. Once you are finished with your headband, you will sew the seams together using the Kitchener stitch.
  • Video tutorials included.
  • Straight needles are easiest for set up of provisional cast on stitches, but not required. If you prefer, you may switch to circular needles after cast on is complete.
