This very easy pattern is used at 3 Kittens Needle Arts to teach our beginning crochet classes. Strips of single crochet, half-double crochet, and double crochet (American terminology) are braided together to produce a beautiful wearable piece.

Size: approximately 31” circumference. To make the cowl longer or shorter, simply increase or decrease the length of the strips.

Gauge: Because this is a beginner project, gauge is not important. Our sample was crocheted at 4.5 sc/inch.

Materials Needed: one skein each of three colors of Cascade 220 (100% wool, 220 yards/skein) or another suitable worsted weight yarn (for beginners, stick to a smooth, non-splitty yarn).
