The Braided Crown Beanie is a celebration of color and an exploration of technique wrapped up in the perfect quick accessory project. The construction of the Braided Crown Beanie is novel and interesting as this modular hat has a brim that is knit separately and in a different direction from the body of the hat. This hat looks especially beautiful when knit in color changing yarns, or with multiple colors. Show off your makes with #BraidedCrownBeanie and tag me @JamesNWatts on Instagram and TikTok.

YARN
Noro Silk Garden Sock-40% Wool, 25% Silk, 25% Nylon, 10% Mohair, 328 yards/ 100 grams, sport weight. Sample was knit in the color #S463 “Ibaraki”
While the recommended yarn is a sport weight yarn, if you aren’t using Noro or another similarly sticky yarn, I’d recommend choosing a DK weight yarn.

CONSTRUCTION AND TECHNIQUE
The hat begins by knitting the brim seperately, side to side. The brim starts with a provisional cast on and a braided cable is knit with a slip stitch icord edge for the bottom of the brim. The ends of the brim are attached using kitchener stitch. Stitches for the body of the hat are picked up and knit along the top edge of the brim, and the remainder of the hat is knit bottom up, with more braided cables and standard ssk/k2tog decreases for the crown shaping.
