The Brick and Mortar Socks are worked cuff down with a heel flap and gusset construction, and utilize two different yarn colors and slip stitches to create a pattern that looks like stacked bricks. These socks provide so much opportunity to play with color and use up scraps and sock sets! You can choose to use a third color or reuse the main or contrast color for the heel to achieve different looks.

Sizes
1 (2, 3, 4) (5, 6)

Finished measurements:
4.5 (5.5, 6.5, 7.5) (8.5, 9.5)” / 11.5 (14, 16.5, 19) (21.5, 24) cm foot circumference

Choose a size with 1-2” / 2.5-5 cm of negative ease in circumference when measured at the widest part of the foot. Note that smaller sizes (1-2) can get away with a little less than 1” / 2.5 cm negative ease.

Black/White and Neon Pink/White samples shown in Size 4 on 8.5” / 21.5 cm foot circumference.

Suggested Needles
US 1 / 2.25mm needles for working small circumferences in the round.
Use the needle size you need to achieve gauge and a fabric and fit you love.

Yarn
The yarn amounts for the heel color (HC) are included separately in case you’d like to choose a separate color for the heel. If you plan to use the MC or CC for the heel, add this amount to your total yarn requirements for that color.

MC: 85 (130, 170, 220) (280, 350) yds / 78 (119, 155, 201) (256, 320) m fingering weight yarn

CC: 35 (50, 65, 80) (105, 130) yds / 32 (45, 60, 73) (96, 119) m fingering weight yarn

HC: 10 (15, 23, 35) (44, 47) yds / 9 (14, 21, 32) (40, 43) m fingering weight yarn

These are just approximations. The total amount used will depend on the yarn you use, your gauge, the wearer’s foot length, and any modifications you may make. Note that even slight changes in gauge can have a significant effect on yardage used.

Recommended yarns:
La Bien Aimée Merino Super Sock (75% Merino Wool / 25% Nylon, 465 yds / 425 m per 100g)

Black/White sample uses La Bien Aimée Merino Super Sock in “Noir” (MC) and “Blanc” (CC) and Chelsea Luxe Yarns Sock in “Rockettes” from 2023 advent (HC)

Neon pink/white sample uses Wol met Verve Merino Twist Sock in “Neon Coral” (MC/HC) and
Woolberry Fiber Co. Berry Cashmere in “White Out” (CC)

Any fingering weight sock yarns will work well.
