The garter edging on this shawl reminds me of open decorative brickwork, which is how the name was born.
The shawl is knitted downwards from the centre point in stockinette stitch. The edging is created by knitting a brick at a time and attaching it as you go. This gives a wonderful open modern texture without being too ‘lacy’.
It was designed to use up one skein but the size can be adjusted as you go along. You can also adjust how much of the shawl is the solid ‘wall’ and how much is ‘brickwork’.
The pattern includes full instructions with photographs.
Gauge is not critical to this project. The pattern is written for a sock yarn but any yarns can be used by adjusting the needle size.

Enjoy :)
