Save to your favorites - pattern launches September 14th! Designed especially for the 5th Anniversary of Weird Sisters Yarn and Two Rivers Books in Portland, OR, this cowl pattern is available for FREE with purchases made during their anniversary party on Saturday, September 14th, 2024.

Inspired by the iconic bridges of Portland, Oregon, this cowl features textured stitches reminiscent of the architecture and trusses of the St. Johns bridge. This bandana cowl features i-cord edging, smocking stitch, and a unique ribbed edge that show off tonal, speckled, and variegated colorways alike. Worked from CO point with an i-cord tab, increasing in size before joining triangle in the round for the neckline, this cowl is relaxing to knit with an easy-to-memorize textured smocking stitch against the tonal background.

Materials:
Yarn: one skein Silver Pennies Yarn Co Bonzer Sport yarn, (100% Superwash Merino; 328 yds/300 meters per 100 gram skein), colorway Susurrous used for sample. Or approximately 200 yds/183 meters of a smooth, multi-plied, sport weight yarn in a tonal, or variegated colorway.

Needles: US size 5/3.75 mm needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. 24”/60 cm circular knitting needle recommended for knitting flat and in the round.

Gauge: 23 sts/36 rows = 4”/10 cm in Stockinette stitch on US 5/3.75 mm needles.

Notions: yarn needle, stitch marker, blocking supplies.

Sizing:
Approximately 12” from CO point to neckline, 4” neckband, 24” circumference.

Pattern Notes:
The increases that form the triangle of the bandana shape are always done on the RS. All slipped stitches are slipped purlwise in order to avoid creating twisted stitches. Necessary skills include knit and purl, working increases (kfb), working i-cord and slipped stitches. Instructions are provided in written format. Please read through the entire pattern to familiarize yourself with its construction before starting to knit.
