This scarf is made using a brioche stitch combined with a brioche cable. The turtleneck section is also made using one of the brioche stitches. Brioche stitches tend to have a fullness and dimensionality not found in other knitting stitches. The stitch itself causes the sides to scallop very slightly. If you’re a good knitter, and are quite familiar with the brioche family of stitches, you might enjoy this pattern.

Of the four different brioche stitch scarves that I have posted in the Eclectic Scarf Section of my shop, this one is more difficult than either of the other cabled brioche scarves, but more difficult than the single and double brioche scarf. (The addition of the garter stitch to this scarf keeps the pattern a bit simpler.) The last one listed just above, is a great introduction to brioche knitting, if you haven’t done any. The Brioche and Traveling Cable Scarf Pattern is the most difficult of the four.

The stitches are both charted and written out line by line. There are also instructions for an optional simple crocheted edging contained within the pattern.

Skill Level: Intermediate+ - Advanced (assuming a good working knowledge of knitting, slipped stitches, and cabling, as well as knowledge of brioche knitting).

This pattern was professionally tested by Lori Veteto who can be contacted at:
hooknneedler@cimtel.net, and is known on Ravelry as “hooknneedler”. It was knitted using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport Weight yarn in colorway, Brick.
