I might be a bit addicted to the brioche and garter stitch combination right now, but it makes so many possibilities that my imagination goes wild!

Here I’ve created another hat pattern, this time with inspiration from the chessboard with its symmetrical squares. On the crown they gather to form a beautiful sun!

The size is easily adjusted since the hat is formed from a pattern repeat of only 12 stitches. It can be made using original brioche decreases (blue/orange hat), but you can also use the brioche unwrapped decreases (yellow/green hat) with a different effect to the finished project.

This pattern includes a picture tutorials and usefull youtube links of all stitches used to help you with your project!

Good luck and happy knitting!

Yarn: Shown samples M short (yellow/green) and M long (blue/orange) is knitted with Easy Care Classic (Mayflower) 50g (1.76 ounces)/105m (115 yards), short = MC Sunny Yellow (285) CC Dark Aquamarine (299) and long = MC Dark Petrol (293) CC Orange (222). You can use any other DK weight yarn.

Needles: 3.0 mm/US 2.5 for the ribbing and 4.0 mm/US 6 for the pattern, or size needed to obtain gauge. 40 cm/16’’ circular needles + double pointed needles or long circular needles for Magic Loop during the shaping of the top

Gauge: 19 st x 22 rounds in 10x10 cm of patterned stitch with 4.0 mm/US 6 needles

Yarn used: Less than 50g of each colour,

Finished size: In stated gauge you will have around 6.5 cm/section. Circumference S: 39 cm M: 45.5 cm L: 52 cm. S is for children. M for adults. Make L if you want a loosely fitted hat. You can also easily increase the sizes by adding an additional 12 stitches.

Other tools: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, stitch marker
