This little hair kerchief is an ideal introduction to two color brioche knitting. There’s no need to feel intimidated by time or yarn investment with this small project. Just pick out some favorite colorways from your stash and get ready to experience the joy of brioche!

The applied border is optional, but is also a fantastic way to practice or learn new knitting skills. Best of all, this hair kerchief is totally reversible, so there is not wrong way to wear it.

If you are a beginner, don’t fret! All the instructions you need are in the pattern and there is a video link (VeryPinkKnits) for you visual learners out there. If you are an advanced knitter, then this project is perfect for a satisfying quick knit with a variety of techniques to keep your interest.

US 4 or 3.5mm needles, cable needle

Yarns used in my samples are Yarn Cafe Creations and Dragon Hoard Yarn. (see project pages)

MC about 16g, CC about 10g

Total Yardage is 115yds to 130 yds of fingering weight.

Finished Measurements: 18 inches (46dcm) wide; 7 inches (18cm) deep

Gauge is not crucial for this pattern, particularly given that brioche creates a fabric with a lot of stretch and squish factor. The important thing is that you create the length that is right for you.

You can simply adjust the needle size and use any weight yarn if you prefer. This pattern could also be continued to any size and easily made large enough to be a shawl.

Let’s get our brioche on!

Thank you so much to my testers!
