This is a posh headband I knit for a friend who doesn’t like to wear a hat but who needed something to keep warm.

She wanted something that would look feminine, with enough elasticity, a classic look and good stitch definition. The brioche rib works well because its stripes are very noticeable but they don’t end up all squeezed together like regular ribbing.

The band is knit back and forth on two needled, and then sewn together. The loop is made after and sewn around the first seam. The needles I chose were very small compared to the manufacturer’s recommended gauge but this is deliberate, in order to get a firmer touch, as the yarn itself is a bit fluffy.

The pattern only includes one size that I think is a happy medium. It will fit a wide number of head shapes because it is stretchy, but someone with a very small or very wide head could simply shorten or lengthen the band without any problem.

I chose Milford because it’s lofty enough for warmth but soft enough and the tweedy look also brings it a little pizazz. The headband requires less than one skein of Milford, but there wouldn’t be enough yarn leftover for another headband.
