Step up your Brioche skills with Brioche Step Up Shawl! Designed with four colors and a short row striping sequence, this shawl will excite your knitting time with plenty of plain brioche in between. Perfect for snuggling in on colder days, the long length provides extra length for wrapping multiple times or around a little one standing in front of you.

The tech edited and test knit easy level pattern is fully written with a construction schematic.

Blocked Gauge:
13 sts and 19 rows over 4”/ 10cm in two color brioche Stockinette stitch. Note: exact gauge is
not critical to this design. Gauge variations may impact final size and yardage requirements.
Special Notes:
• Bind It Off: brioche grows! To prevent your bind off from puckering, make sure to work the bind
off sequence loosely or use a larger needle just for those stitches. The "s1b, k1" in the bind off
sequence provides a little give for the second stitch in the decrease.
• Break It: at each color transition when breaking yarn, leave a 6”/ 15cm long tail for weaving in.
• Color It: check your grey scale and pick highly contrasting colors for easier CACC and CBCD
identification.
• Construct It: Brioche Step Up shawl is a great opportunity to practice working both colors at
the same time. The pattern assumes slipping back to pick up the second color for each row.
• Wrap It: pick up wraps, if desired. Sample shows wraps picked up. If wraps are left in place, on
wrapped sts, even of the same color, you’ll get a “necktie” look where they are left.
• Watch It: check out the pattern for the stitch demo links
• Yarn It: CA and CC use slightly more yarn than CB and CD. If you have a slightly heavier
skein, opt to use that for CA or CC.
