Brioche Knitting Tutorial Pattern
Knit wristwarmers, a scarf or both whilst learning all the techniques of brioche knitting!

Suitable for knitters familiar with the basic knit and purl stitches as well as casting on and off. You do not need to have any previous experience of brioche knitting. This pattern is designed for complete beginners to the brioche technique!

What is brioche knitting?
Brioche is a knitting technique which creates a reversible ribbed fabric of double thickness. This is achieved by using slipped stitches and yarn overs to knit each side of the fabric independently, creating a stretchy, thick and warm piece of knitting.

Brioche can be created in one or more colours, and it is often the twisting patterns of two-colour brioche that attract people to the technique.

What does the pattern include?
This is a 36 page tutorial pattern. It contains detailed instructions, walking you through every step of brioche knitting. You will first learn the one colour brioche technique, then progress to the two colour, and finally master the beautiful twists and turns that brioche creates.

The pattern gently talks you through each section, contains links to our detailed pattern-specific videos, and also has a glossary of techniques detailing each stitch as well as helpful hacks such as rescue lines and counting rows.

What will I create?
We think that it is always more fun to have a useable garment at the end of a piece of knitting. Much more rewarding than making practice squares! Choose from a scarf or wristwarmers in one of three different designs (or make them all!) and learn the techniques as you knit!

What do I need?
For the wrist warmers / fingerless gloves you will need approx 50g (100 metres) of DK yarn in the cuff colour and 35g (70 metres) of DK yarn in the second colour for each pair.

For the scarf you will need approx 130g (260m) of DK yarn in the colour used for the ends, plus 90g (180m) for the second colour.

You’ll also need 4.5mm double pointed or circular needles (NOT straight needles).

Will I be able to knit other brioche patterns after I’ve completed this tutorial?
Yes! Our tutorial pattern gives you all the basic skills you need to tackle any brioche project.

Has this pattern been tested?
Yes! Our pattern testers had a range of knitting experience but none of them had ever conquered brioche knitting before. They all quickly and easily produced beautiful results, and you will too!

What if I get stuck?
We are always here to help. The pattern has a link to our pattern support group on Facebook or you can always email us or message us on Ravelry. We will always respond.
