Keep your hands cosy, while your fingers remain free with a pair of adult sized fingerless mitts.

Good for those cold days when you still need use of your fingers, for such things as touch screens, typing, or knitting.

Britt’s Mitts are knit in the round from the cuff to the fingers, and can be customised with your choice of 5 cable patterns for the back of your hand. Both charts, and written instructions are available.

Two sizes are included:

Small:

  • To fit 7 - 8cm (2.6 - 3.1in) wide palms
  • Uses approximately 85m (93 yards) of 4ply (fingering) yarn
  • if you are using patons baby dreamtime merino, this is about half a ball

Large:

  • To fit 9 - 10cm (3.5 - 3.9in) wide palms
  • Using approximately 120m (131 yards) of 4ply (fingering) yarn

Palm width is measured above the thumb, and gloves are worn with 1 - 2cm (0.4-0.8in) of negative ease.

Gauge is 5cm x 5cm (2in x 2in) = 13sts by 19 rows in stocking
stitch.

Of course, these gloves are stretchy, so there is some flexibility in these measurements.

This pattern uses metric units.

Techniques used include:

  • Knitting in the round with double pointed needles OR magic loop
  • Long tail cast on
  • Ribbing
  • Cables
  • Picking up stitches
  • Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off
