Broadsea Hat
Knitworthy 9 Our newest collection of accessory patterns, perfect to gift. Knitworthy 9 includes six patterns spanning a wide range of techniques and styles.
This pattern will be released for individual purchase in December 2025 until then it is only available as part of Knitworthy 9.
The Broadsea Hat is worked in 1x1 rib with a deep folded brim and refined details borrowed from high-end commercial knitwear. This multi-gauge and extensively sized pattern features six sizes from baby to a generously sized adult xl, to accommodate large heads and / or natural hair styles. Simply select your yarn, from fingering to chunky weight, work a small swatch and follow the done-for-you numbers for your size and gauge combination.
The beginner friendly hat is worked from the bottom up, and completed with a 4-point crown shaped with clean paired decreases. Keep the folded brim perfectly in place with a crisp foldline worked right into the project using a simple but incredibly effective double knitting technique. Don’t worry if you’ve never done double knitting: the only skills required are knit, purl, and slipping stitches.
Yarn
Fingering to Chunky weight yarn. Wool and wool blends are ideal.
Gauge
This pattern includes multiple gauges, so that you can use the gauge you get with your chosen yarn. Before casting on your hat I recommend knitting a swatch of 1x1 ribbing.
Swatch in 1x1 (k1, p1) rib by casting on an even number of stitches and working every row (k1, p1) to end. There is no need to knit the swatch in the round but use the needles you plan to knit the hat with.
Needles
Dpns or circulars for your preferred method of working small circumferences in the round.
16” / 40cm circular (for sizes above baby)
Notions
Stitch markers: 1 for EOR and 8 for decrease wedges
