My one-year anniversary as a designer is a time of gratitude and reflection for me. For about 6 months, I have been playing with elongated caliper cables, putting them on a shawl, cowl, hat, and now fingerless mitts.

We make plans for our lives and set goals to get us there. However, as they say, life is what happens while you’re out making plans. It can cause us to fall apart in unexpected ways. But there’s grace and beauty to be found as we’re picking up the broken pieces. Broken Reflection rearranges the pieces of a cable that were once whole. As I was designing the mitts, it occurred to me that I was also working out recent life changes. Arranging and rearranging the bits, with love, patience, and acceptance, I’m moving towards the next season of my life with a well-seasoned heart and spirit.

CONSTRUCTION
Broken Reflection Mitts are worked bottom up and in the round. They begin and end with a 2x1 twisted ribbing. Alternating sets of elongated caliper cables are framed by simple right and left crossed cables. The palm and thumb gussets are worked in stockinette st. These mitts are symmetrical and specific to the right or left hand. They can be worked on circular or double pointed needles. Instructions are provided so that you can easily work all the cables without a cable needle. The pattern includes written instructions, charts, and a schematic. Working from a chart is optional.
