This pattern was born of necessity when I realized there wasn’t an 80 st mitten in the Selbu mitten books I had.

Only the left mitten is charted, but only the placement of the thumb differs. The pattern has not been tech edited, but free is a great price.

Please enjoy!

Finished measurements
20 cm from 1st motif r above cuff to just below the peak. 21 cm around palm.

Yarn
Vesle Trønder from Selbu Spinneri: 360 m/ 100 g (394 yds/ 100 g).
Ridge Fingering from Ewetopia is an excellent US equivalent: 183 m/ 50 g (200 yds/ 100 g). Both are very soft 100% wool yarns.

MC (darker grey) and CC (pale grey) - 50 g of each, but more if you knit looser. This felt yarn-chicken-y, but 1 skein of each of the main colors was enough.

Small amounts of contrast yarns – a few g each of 2 colors

Gauge
Actual knit cuff: 36 sts/10 cm
Actual knit mitten: 38 sts/ 10 cm
Actual knit cuff: 37 r/10 cm
Actual knit mitten: 40.5 r/ 10 cm

Needles
2.5 mm circular, used as magic loop
2.5 mm DPNs optional for the inside cuff
Extra 2.5 mm or smaller long circular needle for knitting the inside and outside cuffs together

Alternative cuff
I drafted a version of the outside cuff that includes corrugated ribbing instead of braids, which many find fussy. I have not knit the alternative version yet. It may be advisable to go up 1/2 a needle size for the corrugated ribbing so it sits flat relative to the diamond motif.
