Bubble Scrubby Sponge
Bubble Scrubby Sponge
This pattern is for a reusable sponge with scrubby yarn on one side and bubbles on the other. The two sides are crochet separately and in different directions to minimize stretch during use. Pattern makes one size that fits comfortably in your hand.
Finished sponge is about 3in x 4in.
Each sponge is made of 2 different colors of your choice and a scrubby yarn that is taken in on the one side.
2 skeins of Lily Sugar ‘n Cream (one color each) and 1 skein of Red Heart Scrubby yarn will make up to 10 sponges.
Sponges should be washed frequently and can be cleaned in the washing machine in regular loads. Scrubby yarn is gentle enough to use on non-stick pans.
Pattern:
Side one (Bubbles): Sugar n’ Cream color A
Chain 20 sts
Row 1: sc in second st from hook and sc to end. Ch 1 (19 sts not counting Ch 1)
Row 2: sc in second st from hook. %Bubble* st in next st. sc in next st. repeat from % to the end. Ch1
Row 3 - 12: repeat row 1 and 2 alternating
Row 13: sc across to end
finish off
Bubble Stitch: dc 3 times in the same stitch while leaving the last 2 loops of each dc on the hook. You should then have 4 loops on the hook. Pull a final YO through all 4 loops.
Side two (Scrubby): Sugar n’ Cream color B and Scrubby yarn
Chain 14 sts of color B ONLY
Row 1: sc in second st from hook and sc to end. Ch 1 (13 sts not counting Ch 1)
Row 2: hdc in second st from hook, hdc across to end. Ch 1 (13 sts)
Row 3 - 4: repeat row 2
Row 5: add in Scrubby yarn to color B and dc in second st from hook, dc across to the second to last st from the end. Ch 1 (12 sts)
keep dc stiches on the looser side. The 2 yard is challenging and this will help.
Row 6: dc in second st from hook, dc across to the second to last st from the end. Ch 1 (11 sts)
Row 7 - 8: dc in second st from hook, dc across to end. Ch 1 (11 sts)
drop scrubby yard after row 8
Row 9 - 11: repeat row 2
- complete another sc row as Row 12 is your piece is short when laid over Side One (Bubbles)
*Do not cut yarn after row 11
Attach side one to side two:
with yarn from end of side two, stitch all the way around the 4 sides of the two pieces. About 13 sts along short sides, 19 sts along long sides, and ch1 in each corner
Enjoy!
