DESCRIPTION
The Buckle Up Beanie is made using #6 bulky weight yarn so it makes up quickly (about 1 hour) and the thicker yarn gives extra warmth for cold winters. The Bernat Blanket yarn used for my version is super soft too. The single crochet stitch keeps the texture simple with no open work, keeps the cold out and doesn’t expose the head. The length of the hat is meant to reach the bottom of the ears to provide good hairline coverage. The simulated buckle ups the style factor.

The ribbon awareness symbol used on the Buckle Up Beanie pattern, indicates it is part of my Cancer Hat Series. Hats in this series have been designed with form and function in mind. They are suitable for anyone but have specific design details that make them especially appropriate for those dealing with the side effects of cancer and chemo treatments such as hair loss, sensitive heads, and often feeling cold. Yarns selected are soft and not irritating to the head. Stitches chosen don’t have a lot of texture that can be irritating to the scalp or a lot of open work that will expose the head and show hair loss. The fit is snug but comfortable and provides good hairline coverage. And most importantly, the hats need to be stylish to help the wearer feel good about themselves as they battle through a tough journey.

The yarn, stitch and buckle design detail make for a clean, modern looking hat that anyone would appreciate wearing. Check out the Chunky Tech Touch Mittens if you want to add to your set.
