My take on the super trendy messy bun beanie takes it to a new level with the addition of festive buffalo plaid! Worked up in extra chunky wool blend yarn, this hat makes a warm and festive gift for the messy bun wearing gal on your list!

If you’re not a fan of plaid, you can make this hat in any color you like - example images are shown of some of the cute hats people have made in solids and stripes!

Written in US terminology

Size: Adult, 21”

Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick or Loops and Threads Cozy Wool - I used a mix of the two. Or substitute your favorite super bulky weight yarn. You will need less than half a skein in the following colors:
White or Off-White for the brim - (I used Wool Ease Starlight which has a metallic thread woven through it)
Maroon
Red
Black

Yardage: Approximately 50 yards of each color for a total of 200 yards.

Gauge: 10 stitches/ 16 rows in a 4” swatch of stockinette stitch with 9mm needles.

Needles: 9mm 16” circular needles or size needed to achieve gauge. For the decreases at the top of the hat, you will need a longer cable for magic loop or double pointed needs.

Other materials: stitch marker, large tapestry needle to weave in ends

Difficulty: Advanced Begginner to Intermediate - This is a very simple beanie. The color work is the only challenging aspect.

Stitches (st./st.’s) used: knit (K), purl (P), knit two together (K2tog)

The hat is worked in rounds from the bottom up.
