I wanted to knit a bulky ribbed toque but couldn’t find the pattern I was looking for, so I wrote this one. This cozy toque will keep the wind out on the coldest of days, the option of marling or not makes for endless colour possibilites. The Arctic Vortex Bulky Toque knits up quickly and uses up single skeins of aran or chunky weight yarn. A single skein will likely be enough for a single colour toque, two skeins will make two, but double check your gauge and yardage to be sure you will have enough.

My finished toque weighs 118 grams and used approximately 160 yards of aran weight single ply merino. Gauge is only important for the circumference of the toque, knit to the length you’d like then close up the top using the decrease method I describe.

Pattern has some basic abbreviations but this would be a great pattern for someone learning to knit. It also makes a great quick gift knit that works up in an evening. Enjoy!
