This is such a simple pattern, you can use any yarn as long as it meets the needle. In this case a set of 12mm straight needles (US 17). If you want to with this pattern you could even mix different weights in yarn, for example 3 or 4 strands of DK. That way you never have the same look, because who wants to look the same.

Yarn is not set in concrete for cowls or scarves.
