This hat is knit in the round from the bottom up with cables and a butterfly stitch pattern. The stitch pattern and cables continue nearly to the top of the hat. It was inspired by one of my nature walks through the nearby state preserves. As I was walking along taking photos of the lush greenery a couple butterflies kept trying to land on me. I think they were attracted to my bright red shirt; a flower with sweet nectar was in their minds perhaps?

As seen in the last picture it can also be worn with the ribbing section flipped up, if you don’t do this the hat has a little bit of a slouch to it.
