The Butterflight Shawl is a pattern that begins at the point and is work in straight rows until the desired size is reached. My sample is made using an acrylic yarn, but any yarn of your choice would work just as well - two of my testers used stranded cotton yarn to great effect.

There are three design options with this pattern (shown in images), plus an optional ruffled border for the short edges.

Gauge is not crucial to this design - you may prefer to do a lacier version with fine yarn and a larger hook.

Stitches used are ch, sc, hdc, dc, plus hdc2tog and puff, which are explained in the text. I would rate this pattern for intermediate crocheters.
