6/2023: A major rewrite of this pattern was done in June 2023. I left the earlier version of the pattern from 2017 with the narrow borders but the wider borders look better and prevent curling. I recommend using the second version of the pattern. The third version of the pattern is the green, yellow and white striped version of the blanket.

Uses 4 3.5 oz skeins of worsted weight yarn. About 1000 yards.

About the \ in the chart’s key: The written pattern uses slip 1, knit 1, psso (pass stitch over stitch) for the left leaning decrease. The chart calls it ssk. I used the slip 1, knit 1, psso method. But if you usually use ssk for left leaning decreases, that would work too.

Two of the photos are of a variation of this pattern which adds stripes. I liked the idea of adding more texture by adding some rows of seed stitch after each set of three butterflies. You can also use different colors of yarn and alternate stripes of solid colors. I didn’t have enough yarn and solved the problem by adding the white stripes. Another idea would be green and yellow stripes with the variegated yellow/green/white yarn between them.
