You need:
DK (11 wpi; 8 ply; no 3: Light) yarn 40-50g or 105-131 yards in two colors
Few yards of contrast color for the butterfly body
Double pointed knitting needle size US 4 (3.5 mm) or to obtain gauge 4” x 4” (10 x 10 cm) = 24 sts x 34 rows (in stockinette stitch)

Abbreviations:
MC and CC – main and contrast color
RS and WS – right and wrong side of the work
Sts - stitches
K- knit
P - purl
K2tog – knit two stitches together
P2tog – purl two stitches together
Psso – pass slipped stitch over
Kfb – knit in front and back of stitch
Ssk – slip slip knit
