For those of us who have seen a butterfly with wings spread open, we know how hard it is to capture the delicate and brilliant beauty in any two-dimensional media. But that doesn’t mean we don’t keep trying! Here’s an attempt at allowing mosaic stitches and short-row swooping a chance to pass on those breathtaking images!

There are several lines of mid-pattern cast-on sections in this pattern that will later be picked up, so choose a cast-on method such as crochet or knitted that will make it easy to find these stitches later. For the same reason, you’ll be slipping the first st of each row with yarn in front before knitting the second st to help find these sts for picking up later.

This pattern uses mosaic. Each section will use all three CC colors with the MC as border. When choosing colors, one should be significantly lighter than the others and in a different color family. The other two should be somewhat similar but still distinct from each other. For the MC, choose something that is distinct from all three CC.
