This wrap is knit lengthwise. Its generous length allows it to be wrapped many ways. Soft enough to wear scrunched up like a scarf and wide enough to wear like a shawl.

Button Lace was designed with the West Coast of Canada in mind, Lots of water, and waves, and mountains towering over everything. The First Nations here create the most beautiful “Button Blankets”. In this shawl the button and double knit stripe detail is a nod to those works of Art.

It starts from a simple Shetland lace pattern that is worked in two colours for a striped look and finishes with an elaborate lace edging.

In between the two styles of lace is a double knit button band, main colour on one side and a brilliant red on the other. Buttons are sewn onto both sides of band at the same points, 45 buttons per side.

The ends are finished with a picot edging.

90 shell buttons are needed for the button bands. Sample used Acoya Shell buttons.
