These colourful mittens mimic the traditional Fair Isle style of knitting. An optional drawstring at the ribbed cuff adds extra protection against winter drafts.

The mittens are constructed in alternating rows of 3 colours, though could be adapted to use multiple colours from your stash. A series of dc, sc and ch-spaces create the design.

The mittens are designed for a slim-fit, but simply upping the hook size can make a looser fitting pair to allow you to add lining.

This is a written pattern that also contains a symbol chart of the pattern stitches.

The red, black and white mittens in the photographs were crocheted with Caron Simply Soft, while the grey, white and pink pair were crocheted with Patons Classic Wool Worsted.

This pattern is suitable for the intermediate crocheter or the ambitious advanced-beginner.

A men’s version is also available in my Ravelry shop.
