This is one of the Inside Out Cable patterns in the Mostly Classic Cables book. It’s a great practice piece to learn basic cable making. Ribber is optional

SIZE
Finished cowl is about 27” in circumference at the ends and 26 in the middle. Due to the stitch changes, the ends flare slightly. Length is 6.75”. To alter the circumference add or subtract stitches. You must do so in increments of 6. To alter length, add or subtract rows in increments of 3. It is normally not a problem for a cowl to be slightly different in size from the measurements given so it is not essential to match gauge perfectly.

YARN AND GAUGE-6 gauges are given so any machine may be used.
Gauges from 3-7 stitches and 5-10 rows/” are included. Knit 4, Purl 2 across your swatch using the instructions on purling below. After the first row, knit the knits and purl the purls. I suggest knitting a little loosely no matter what yarn you select. It’s easier to cable if you do plus the cowl has a softer more comfy shape. The yarn shown in the sample is an unusually lofty wool made from Jacob’s Sheep raised on Belle Ridge Farm. The yarn is available through Belle Ridge Farm directly. 4 oz. or 400 yards required in the 4 stitch/” gauge.
