This hat is the perfect project to start to learn to knit cables. You start at the brim, with the cables and then continue with the stockinette part of the hat with a pretty crown decrease at the end.

You can choose if you want to knit a tighter beanie/toque or a more slouch version. Both are explained, and also its length is easily adjustable by knitting extra rows in the stockinette part.
