You may have seen these messy bun beanies on social media, taking the yarn world by storm for their whimsical way to wear your hair up and wear a beanie at the same time! This pattern is not just a hat with the very top missing.

For this pattern, we incorporate a hair tie into the beanie’s structure to make it super easy to slip over any up-do. Cable details and a ribbed brim ensure that this project distinctly looks like a beanie with a cute hair “pom-pon” that you have to supply yourself ;)

Required for this pattern is a skein of worsted weight yarn, a J (6mm) crochet hook and a standard stretchy hair-tie.

You will need to know all of the basic crochet stitches and how to crochet into the front post and back posts of stitches for this intermediate pattern.

When you purchase this pattern you get a downloadable PDF file containing:

-required materials, finished project stats and photos
-a step by step written pattern in US crochet terms of how to make the beanie
-photo tutorials of the more complicated parts of the pattern like crocheting the setup row around a hair-tie and the cableing sequence.
