Three braids circle around the head in this new take on the traditional cable hat. Most hat patterns require switching from circular to double-pointed needles to make the crown. This hat can be knit entirely on straight needles.

The hat is sized for a woman’s head but can easily be adjusted for other head circumferences by knitting fewer or more repeats.

The hat is suitable for any Aran weight. Approximately 180 yards are required. Instructions for an optional pom-pom are included.

Equipment needed:

  • US Size 7 (Metric 4.5) knitting needles
  • cable needle
  • yarn needle
  • 7 stitch markers

Knitters making this hat should be familiar with cables, kitchener stitch, provisional cast-on and short rows.
