Cabled Bag Holder
I got tired of finding grocery bags crammed under the kitchen sink. I had made several market bags for my boyfriend, but keeps forgetting them when he stops at the store and he brings these bags home. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a couple in the house, we recycle them to clean out the litter box and to line the bathroom waste cans. I would open the doors under the sink and the bags would explode from under there like a jack-in-the-box. I couldn’t find a bag holder that I truly loved to hang in the laundry room so I made one myself.
Now this is my first ever attempt at writing a crochet pattern so I’m sure there may be an error or two. Please let me know, and thank you for the many compliments.
Lisa

Tools
I used Bernat baby yarn that I had lying around the house and had no plans for (I don’t recommend for this project. It just seems like it won’t hold up to the job at hand. Maybe a heavier worsted weight yarn would be best.
5.5mm hook
The plastic ring that is under cap of milk jug (Weird I know, but I found that this would be perfect to use for the bottom of the bag for the opening where the bags come out)
Scissors
Needle (to sew in ends)
Button (I used 1 5/8inch pearl-like)

Stitches used
SC- single crochet Dbc=double crochet Fpdc=front post double crochet
Trfp-triple front post double crochet Hdc-half double crochet chain slipstitch

Let’s get started…
Row 1 -24 SC around the plastic ring, slip stitch to first SC, chain 2, chains will NOT be counted as a stitch throughout this project
Row 2-24 Dbc into each stitch slipstitch into first, chain 2
Row 3- Dbc in next 4 stitches, 2 Dbc in 5 stitch, continue around with this pattern slip stitch in first Dbc, chain 2
Row 4- Dbc in next 2 stitches, 2 Dbc in 3rd, continue with this pattern, slip stitch into first stitch, chain 2
Row 5- Dbc in next 3 stitches, 2 Dbc in 4th, continue with this pattern, slipstitch in first stitch chain 2
Rows 1-5 are the bottom of the bag and should naturally sit flat after starting the cable stich in the next row, if it doesn’t, you might want to do a row of Dbc in the front loops only before starting the cable stiches.
Row 6- Fpdc in first dbc, skip next 2 dbc, Trfp in next 2 dbc, go back in Trfp in the 2 dbc you skipped, Fpdc in 6 stitch continue around, slipstitch into first Fpdc, chain 2
Row 7- Fpdc in each stitch, make you don’t miss the 2 stitches hidden (stitch 2 and 3), slipstitch into first stitch and chain 2
Continue with row 6 & 7 until you have the height you desire, I stopped at 10 inches, but should have gone a bit higher. Maybe 12 inches. But it will stretch.
Row 8 Hdc into each stitch, slipstitch into first stitch, chain 1
Row9-19 Hdc 6 chain1 and turn
Row 20- 2 hdc, chain 2, 2hdc, chain1 and turn (button hole)
Row 21-2 hdc 3hdc in the chain space, 2hdc, chain 1 and turn
Row 22 3 hdc, 6Dbc in next stitch (shell), and 3hdc in last 3 stitches
Finish off

I lined up the shell you just made with the opposite side of bag and sewed button on the Hdc row

Stuff it with bags….Mine held about 20
