This chart (with written instructions included) is designed for use with any item constructed from the top down. It is 50x50sts, so a small size, however the tree’s trunk is easily extendable. It was originally designed for the Milo vest (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/milo-3), by Georgie Hallam (tiKKi).

Use needles and gauge according to pattern of garment, however a loose gauge will not be suitable for the cabled pattern.

Block after completion, and it will make the cables sit nicely. Embellish the branches with flower, leaf or apple-shaped buttons, or embroidery.

14June13: Looking through people’s projects, I see that some are mentioning errors in the instructions. If you find an error, please let me know so that I can fix it for others coming after. I knitted this from the chart, which I’m pretty sure is accurate. However the written instructions are what my charting software spits out, so may contain errors - I haven’t sat down and compared one with the other (I don’t enjoy written instructions for things like this), so if there’s a problem, I’d love to know the details. Thanks!

4Nov13: Often on patterns I find the caveat that knitters may not sell items made with the pattern. After a lot of thought and research I have decided that I don’t agree with this statement. I don’t believe that the designer has any rights over the finished product, so, if you’re handknitting and you want to sell items made from my patterns - Best of Luck, and Go For It! I think handknitting for a living must be quite a challenge, so you need all the luck I can give you. Of course, my rights DO cover the patterns themselves, so you mustn’t copy or distribute them.

Just a note though: if you’re knitting this on a milo vest, then you need to adhere to Tikki’s copyright statement, not mine :)
