-Size 4 (Medium) yarn. (I used mainstays which is comparable to red heart)
-J Hook

Abbreviations used-
Ch. = Chain
SC = Single Crochet

BPDC = Back Post Double Crochet

This pattern does walk you through the cable stitch but familiarity with
cabling is helpful.

The length of the piece is adjustable and instructions are given for that.
