With the provisional cast on, this cabled hat’s seam will be virtually invisible. This cabled hat starts with a sideways cable band which is adjusted for size by knitting more cables for larger sizes. Each cable knitted requires more stitches picked up (approximately 8 sts per cable) for the rest of the hat. The picked up stitches should be divisible by 8 for decreasing the crown. Gauge is not critical with this hat pattern. In order to fit two sideways cables on the infant hat I used a size 8 needle. For larger hats use a size 9 for child’s sizes and 10 for adult sizes. You will need one skein for the infant and child’s hat, and 2 skeins for adults. This pattern also knits up well with two strands of worsted.
