Cadeau Socks
These sweet socks feature a faux cable and eyelet rib design, making them nice and stretchy.
This is an AAA sock pattern:
Any yarn can be used
Any gauge will work
Any foot will fit
AAA sock patterns are a project of mine to write patterns for socks that fit, even if we change up the yarn or needles we are using and get a different gauge. Maybe we want to make fingering weight socks for our child, but DK weight socks for ourselves. My thought is that one pattern should be able to cover both of those situations.
Construction: Cuff down, with a heel flap and gusset and standard toe.
Included:
-Options for a ribbed toe or stockinette toe
-Schematic + Detailed sizing information
-Can be knit at multiple gauges, from light fingering to DK
-Illustrated Construction Overview
-Hyperlinks for easy pattern navigation
-Links to video tutorials for special techniques
-Written and charted instructions for the stitch pattern
Sizing:
The pattern is written in 5 sizes. 32, 44, (54, 66, 76) sts.
The socks are meant to be 10% smaller in circumference than your actual foot. Measure around the widest part of your foot, and multiply by .9 for the ideal sock circumference.
Choose the size closest to your ideal sock circumference. If between sizes, size up. You will be able to work additional gusset decreases to get to your ideal stitch count.
The sizing chart is based on gauge from 5 to 9 stitches per 1” / 2.5 cm. So they can be knit in light fingering to DK weight yarn. Choose your favorite yarn and needle combination for socks, and use your gauge to determine which size will best fit your foot. Find your gauge in the left column and follow it across that row for the finished sock circumference of each size.
Please see the size chart and schematic in the photos for sock circumferences.
Ideally total sock length is also 10% shorter than your actual foot length. Convert the rounds listed in the schematic into lengths using your round gauge, then subtract those from your ideal sock length to calculate how long to knit the foot of the sock.
Needles & Notions:
US 0 / 2 mm - US 5 / 3.75 mm small circular needles, or preferred needle size for socks with the yarn you are using.
Use the needle size that gives you a fabric you like with the yarn you are using. For fingering weight yarn it’s common to use between US 0 / 2.0 mm to US 2 / 2.75 mm, for DK weight US 2 / 2.75 mm to US 3 / 3.25 mm
Fingering weight sample was knit with US 1 / 2.25 mm needles. DK weight sample was knit with US 3 / 3.25 mm needles.
Pattern is written for small circulars, but can be worked using magic loop or DPNs. I recommend using magic loop for the toes.
3 stitch markers, darning needle, scissors, a tape measure or sock ruler.
Yardage:
The socks can be knit in light fingering to DK weight yarn.
HiKoo CoBaSi 2 skeins (220 yards / 201 meters per 50 g), 55% Cotton, 21% Elastic Nylon, 16% Bamboo, 8% Silk.
OR 400 yards / 366 meters of fingering to DK weight sock yarn.
Yardage needed will vary based on yarn chosen and size knit, as well as how long the leg and foot are knit.
