A stunning ensemble of silky sheen and airy lace, these mitts and mantelet make the perfect pair. The gauntlet-length fingerless mitts feature a Celtic medallion motif on the upper hand, lace-up details, and simple lace edging. The mantelet displays the same medallion at the shoulders and lacing up the center front. The contrast of weight and texture in the lace edging gives this ensemble a unique and elegant look.

This pattern includes one size, which will fit a wide range of bodies. The mantelet will fit a 30-48” (76-122cm) chest. The mitts are 13.25” (34cm) in length and 3.75” (10cm) across the palm.

The gauge for the mantelet and mitts is 22 sts and 32 rows over 4” (10cm) in Stockinette Stitch on middle size needles, blocked.
The gauge for the lace edging is 22 sts and 20 rows over 4” (10cm) in lace pattern on largest size needles, blocked.

This is an intermediate level pattern. Knitters should have experience following a complex cable chart or written instructions. Knitters will also use basic shaping techniques, and simple lace techniques.

For the mantelet and mitts (MC), I used Knit Picks Gloss DK (70% Merino Wool, 30% Silk; 123 yards/50g): 4 balls of Wharf #28588.

For the lace edging (C1), I used Knit Picks Aloft (72% Super Kid Mohair, 23% Silk; 260 yards/25g): 1 ball of White #25213.

Any DK weight yarn can be substituted for the mantelet and mitts, and any lace weight mohair or mohair blend yarn will work for the lace edging.

You will also need size US 6 (4.0 mm) 32” (80cm) circular needle and DPNs, or size to obtain gauge with MC, size US 5 (3.75 mm) DPNs or 32” (80cm) circular needle for Magic Loop Technique, or one size smaller than size to obtain gauge, and size US 10 (6.0 mm) 32” (80cm) circular needle, or size to obtain gauge with C1.

Additionally, you will need a cable needle or extra DPN, and approximately 3 yds (3m) of .25” (50mm) ribbon to lace up the mantelet and mitts.

This pattern includes charts as well as written instructions for the cable medallions, so knitters can choose according to their preference. Written instructions are included for the lace edging.
