I’ve done a lot of bandana cowls lately, but this one is knit in an entirelydifferent way. It’s knit both in the round and flat, and incorporates a couple of different shawl techniques in its unorthodox construction—how could I resist that?

Calibrate makes an interesting project, and the finished triangle cowl is pretty nice too. It has an understated texture, and in grungy colors, a nice post-apocalyptic feel.

Materials:

  • 500 yards fingering-weight yarn; shown in Malabrigo Sock in Turner colorway
  • 1 set of 5 DPNs in US3-5/3.25-3.75mm, or size needed for gauge
  • 1 24-48” circular needle in size needed for gauge. (Work is in the round and, later, flat, and you’ll also need or want intermediate circular lengths if you prefer not to work magic loop.)
  • crochet hook (for circular cast-on)
  • Tapestry needle
  • 4+ removable stitch markers

Measurements:
As shown, the sample measures 29”/74cm tall from collar to bandana point, and 13”/33cm across the top, measured flat. Circumference is roughly double the flat measurement.

Gauge:
Gauge is 21 sts and 44 rows over 4”/10cm of lightly blocked garter stitch, worked flat. Please be sure to check your gauge!
