About the Calico Quilt Shawl
The Calico Quilt Shawl was originally a 25 Day MKAL for Bumblebee Acres Farm’s 2nd Annual Advent MKAL! I was inspired to create this design by the cute, scrappy nature of homemade quilts and the calico prints that always somehow work together, even though each is so different. The construction of this shawl is unique, because I wanted to create seams/joins and triangles that all stretch in a uniform way, so the shawl behaves as one piece, instead of the many little triangles that it is!
This pattern is meant to be a relaxing, happy knit leading up to Christmas, so do not feel stressed by this pattern in any way! It is mostly garter stitch, with the only complexity involved being join-as-you-go style seaming! Because the pattern is so simple, you can enjoy each day’s color as you knit it. You can also infuse memories into each step as you knit and reflect on the day! By Christmas Day, you will have a big, cozy shawl or shanklet filled with warmth and memories. But, you can enjoy this pattern any time of year on your own or with friends in your own KAL! There are still Christmas quotes in each step, but the magic of Christmas is something I believe in sharing all year round (just like Christmas music haha)!
Thank you and I hope you enjoy the pattern!

  • You will need either 1000 yards or 2000 yards of fingering weight yarn. I used Bumblebee Acres Farm’s Coquette Sock Advent Calendar Mini Skeins these are 25 minis (one different for each day) that are approx 40 yards (10 grams) each. If you are doing an advent with 80 yard minis (20 grams) and want to make an extra large Shanklet, you can make the XL version, or, just use half of each mini and save the other half for another project (like advent socks!)!

  • You do not need 25 different colors, you can even do this pattern with 3 full skeins! However, as the designer, I suggest switching your color every day, so you are not using the same color in two consecutive days. ALSO You can use your own stash of minis/leftovers! just be sure that you have at least 10 grams (40 yards) of fingering weight yarn for each clue!

  • The stitches are easy! You need to know how to: SSK, K2TOG, K, and KFB, Pick up along edge, and Pick up and knit along edge!

  • There is no seaming required! Yay!
