In comedy, a callback is a joke that refers to something said earlier in the performance. In shawl knitting, this Callback is a long back and forth tale of stockinette and reverse stockinette, punctuated by a graphic I-cord, and ending in a lush ruffle that repeats the main colour.

Callback is part of The Stand-Up Collection - knitwear with a punch that’s inspired by stand-up comedy.

Choose a fingering weight yarn that has good drape and feels next-to-skin soft that has a matching mohair. The graphic I-cord will pop best if a solid colour is used for the body and ruffle. Or use two strands of lace weight yarn held together for the stockinette sections of the body and held singly for the reverse stockinette sections.

You’ll need a Main Colour (MC) 750 y/685 m of fingering weight or 1200 y/1100 m of lace weight (wound into two supplies). For the I-cord you’ll need 20 y/18 m for each of Contrast Colour 1 (CC1) and Contrast Colour 2 (CC2); for the ruffle (CC3) you’ll need 330 y/300 m of mohair or other fluffy laceweight yarn that matches the MC.

Red version shown in MC Shibui Knits Cima in Syrah; 4 skeins (yarn held double in sections) with Lang Jawoll Superwash, CC1 colour 4 and CC2 colour 1, 1 skein each and CC3 Shibui Knits Silk Cloud colour Syrah, 1 skein.

Grey version shown in MC Lang Jawoll Superwash, colour 5; 3 skeins. With CC1 Lang Jawoll, colour 1 and CC2 Lang Jawoll colour 316, 1 skein each and CC3 Rowan Kidsilk Haze, colour 605, 2 balls.
