Your new fave adventure sock!

These socks are knitted cuff-down with a shadow wrap short row heel and a wedge toe, including an optional modification that adds a reinforced panel to the back of the heel. This adds some extra thickness and durability to a spot that gets some significant wear, and also helps the heel and ankle fit more closely. Pattern is written for 9 inch circulars with notes added for magic loop.

Difficulty: Advanced beginner/intermediate. This pattern uses basic shaping (k2tog and ssk), short row heel, and kitchener stitch bind-off.

Sizing:
Pattern available in sizes 1 (2) 3 (4) to fit foot/ankle circumference of 8.5 (9) 9.5 (10) in or 22 (23) 24 (25) cm.

Please note that given measurements are for the “thickness” of the foot/ankle and do not correspond to length of the foot (shoe size.) Socks may be knit to the desired foot length for any of the listed sizes.

Materials:
Size 1 (2.25 mm) 9-in circulars (or other needle type for preferred sock construction)
Yarn: 100g (325-400yd/300-365 m) of heavy fingering-weight sock yarn.
Tapestry needle
Stitch markers

Yarn usage will vary by sock length/shoe size. For most typical shoe sizes, 100g of most typical sock yarns (325-400 yd or 300-365m) will be sufficient for a full pair of socks. If you are knitting a sock in size 3 or 4 for a foot length of 10.5 in/26 cm or longer, you may need to purchase an additional ball/skein of yarn.

Green sample (size 3) used 86g (286 yd/261 yd) of Patons Kroy Socks and is knitted for a foot circumference of 9.25 in.

Brown sample (size 3) used 60g (252 yd/231 m) of Retrosaria Rosa Pomar Mondim and is knitted for a foot circumference of 9.25 in.
