Canarios
Canarios is a tapestry crochet mochila bag inspired by the geometric art and symbols associated with the indigenous Guanche people of the Canary Islands. The design features a circular base with a sun-inspired motif, a geometric body pattern, a crocheted shoulder strap, and a drawstring closure.
The pattern is written using US crochet terminology and includes both written instructions and charts for the bottom, bag body, and strap. Optional finishing ideas for the strap and drawstring are also included.
Finished size
- Diameter: approximately 22 cm (8.7”)
- Height: approximately 24 cm (9.4”)
- Strap length: approximately 130 cm (51”)
The pattern is designed for one size. While experienced crocheters can resize the bag by adjusting the stitch count in multiples of 64 and adapting the base accordingly, the large motif repeat means the resulting size differences are substantial. The pattern is therefore intended to be worked as written.
Gauge
35 stitches and 20 rounds in single crochet worked in the back loop only = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4”).
