Cancer survivor hat
I designed this hat to celebrate my ten year anniversary of being declared free from cancer. I hope that it, in some small way, can give hope to those suffering from this horrible illness.
The pattern will always be free but if you can, and want to, I would deeply appreciate a small donation to any cancer charity.
Construction: The hat is knitted bottom up using two colour cables to create the cancer awareness ribbon motif.
Gauge: 29 stitches and 33 rows per 10 cm/4”.
Needles: Circular needles in size 2.75 mm/US 2 and 3.25 mm/US 3.
Size: This hat is designed to fit a head with a circumference of 52-54 cm.
To make a larger hat, use thicker yarn and/or lower gauge.
To make a smaller hat, use thinner yarn and/or higher gauge.
Please note that any adjustments of the gauge will also affect the amount of yarn that’s needed.
Yarn: The sample hat was knitted using Drops Lima (DK weight yarn with a meterage of 100m/50 g (109 yards/1.76 ounces).
Any yarn that gives the correct gauge and wanted fabric can be used but please note that the cable pattern gives a higher gauge than the one achieved with stockinette stitch.
The sample hats used approximately 170 m/185 yards of MC yarn and 40 m/45 yards of CC yarn.
