Representing the fir tree, the “needle” motif, also known as “Laima’s Sign” evokes the persevering quality of the evergreen in winter. The only colour in a bleak and snowy landscape, it symbolizes hope in the midst of despair, light in the midst of darkness.

In these socks, the bright, flame-like vibrancy of the contrast colour against a dark solid background demonstrates how light can pierce the dark night. Just like candles at mid-winter.

Worked in the classic manner from the top-down, these socks are worked with two colours per round. You can vary the colours on the motif as you like. In the sample shown the colour variations occur in the yarn.
