This sock pattern has a candy cane stripe wrapping the entire length of the sock with contrasting cuff, heel and toe, perfect to wear all Christmas!

The socks are worked from the cuff down, in the round, with colourwork throughout the length of the leg and foot. The heel is a shadow wrap short row heel and they are finished with kitchener stitch to graft the toe.

They can be knit in a variety of colours but I have chosen traditional red, green and white for Christmas - I’ve knitted these socks using Drops Nord 4ply sock wool, a super soft sock yarn with a 45% alpaca content, lovely to work with, and very reasonably priced as well as easy to get hold of. You will need 1 skein each of Red, Lemongrass and Off White to work the same colours as mine.

Any 4 ply sock yarn will do, however, the gauge I’ve worked to is 28 stitches to 32 rows using 2.5mm double pointed needles - you can use a circular needle and the magic loop method if you prefer.

The pattern is written for 3 sizes, small (UK 5-6), medium (UK 6-7) and large (UK 7-8), but is very easily customizable to fit your own foot. As you’re knitting from the cuff down, you can slip your work over your foot to check the fit of the leg, heel and foot as you go.

The pattern is designed for confident knitters with knowledge of sock knitting and stranded colourwork - joining in the round, knitting with two strands of yarn at once, a short row heel, kitchener stitch.
