The Cantrip Fingerless Mitts are the first basic ‘knitting spell’ in the Alchemitts collection of the Encyclopedia Knitica. The mitts have been tested with multiple yarn brands in solids, variegated, and self-striping. The pattern is adult one-sized fits most and incredibly stretchy.

This design is approachable for the adventurous or advanced beginner and includes multiple suggestions for how to customize the length or width of the mitts for your desired fit. The pattern format is accessible with larger font and appropriate contrast for either color or black and white viewing/printing.

This pattern is written for the Magic Loop technique, but can be adapted for double pointed needles.

One skein of DK yarn makes 2 mitts, and potentially can be used for 4 mitts if you’re knitting the shorter length. Adding in a CC for the ribbing sections is optional. Most DK sock sets with a MC full skein and mini CC skein will make 1-2 pairs of mitts of long or short lengths - check your yardage against the pattern requirements.

Fingering weight yarn may be used if held double to create a DK weight with similar gauge.
