Cap, Mittens and Socks

Knitting
Samband of Iceland Gefjun Wool
14 stitches = 4 inches
in Stockinette in the round
US 9 - 5.5 mm
US 6 - 4.0 mm

Vintage pattern. No breakdown of yarn amounts for the individual parts of the set.

Two different colorwork patterns are provided for each item and the cap has two different shaping options. Socks are knee high and cuffed. Shown worn with the over the knee (Knickers, US usage) cross country skiing pants.

The yarn is long discontinued and little was found about it. It is not the laceweight Loðband Gefjun in the database here and appears to be different from a Gefjun Lopi although the gauge is similar.

One previous owner of this booklet recommended substituting Rauma Vamsegarn which is Aran weight and 80 meters/50 grams. Samband of Iceland also produced an Aran weight yarn, Saga, listed here at 113 meters/50 grams. but the gauge for either is 16-18 st/10cm., not the 14 called for in the pattern.

Pattern calls for 300 grams of white and either 100grams of black or 100 grams each of black and 3 shades of gray, to make the set.

Three sizes are offered but there is no indication of what the finished dimensions of each would be or even of what size they are meant to fit.
