The stranded colourwork in this cape is based on an Icelandic magical stave for disguise; in Icelandic, it is called Hulinhjalmur. The spell itself is a bit grisly, but once done, it was supposed to prevent your enemies from seeing you. The stave is beautiful on its own and lends itself well to intarsia knitting.

YARN: Diamond Luxury Highlander (100% Peruvian Wool, sport weight, 50g/138m per ball); 6/7/7/8/9/10/11/12/13/14 balls in Dark Blue (3309) and 1/1/2/2/2/2/2/3/3/4 ball(s) in Marine Blue (col. 3308).

NEEDLES: 3.25 mm 24” circular needles (or size required to obtain gauge), and 2.75 mm circular needles (or needles 0.5 mm smaller than main needles) for working neckline and button band.

GAUGE: 24 sts x 32 rows in stockinette

MEASUREMENTS/SIZING: 36/38/40/42/44/46/48/50/52/54” around chest (with approximately 4” of positive ease, so if your bust measures 32”, knit the 36” size).

OTHER MATERIALS USED: Yarn holder, approx. 16 3/4”-1” buttons, needle and thread.

This pattern is also available in the Stave Series collection, which includes the ‘Take Flight’, ‘Helm of Awe’, ‘Felted Slipper Boots’, ‘Prosperity Messenger Bag’, and ‘Socks for Protection’.
